Create theater magic this summer with Brooklyn Acting Lab!

BAL’s Young PLAYers Series run weekly from June 22 – September 4, 2020, and are offered at Brooklyn Acting Lab’s BAL location in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Our one-week summer programs allow your child to collaborate, create and have an immersive, magical experience. Guided by experienced teaching artists who are both educators and theater professionals, participants will work together to explore a weekly theme. No prior experience is necessary to participate in this supportive and nurturing ensemble experience. We will sing, dance, and use our imaginations to tell stories and create characters. Each week culminates in a Friday afternoon sharing open to family and friends. Sign up for one week or for the entire summer!

BAL is an ensemble-based program. We believe that one of the most exciting aspects of theater-making is working together to create a performance piece which is inclusive and celebrates each and every ensemble-member. At our summer theater programs everyone has a part to PLAY whether you are a veteran to the stage or new to the scene.

Please send your child with a healthy lunch, two snacks, and a bottle of water. We are a nut-free environment so please pack food accordingly.

July 6 – 10 | Enchanted Forest / $475
Who lives in the Enchanted Forest? What happens there? What does it sound and feel like? What are the secret stories we can uncover? Join us as we create our own Enchanted Forest of magical experiences and charmed creatures. We’ll invite our families and friends into our forest on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm — but be aware – it may be more than you expect!

July 13 – 17 | Mad Hatter Tea Party / $475
Come venture down the rabbit hole with us as we explore our own Wonderland in this week-long imaginative process drama. We’ll incorporate singing and movement as we create our own characters based on Lewis Carroll’s extraordinary work. We will entertain a host of unique characters at our own Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and we’ll share what we’ve discovered with families and friends on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm.

July 20 – 24 | Mythologica / $475
We’ll dive into the world of mortals, immortals and monsters from Ancient Greece for inspiration and spend this week exploring these facinating tales. We’ll embody minataurs, centaurs, Gods and heros as we create our own versions of these captivating stories. We’ll share our creations with families and friends on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm.

July 27 – 31 | Spy School / $475
Da-da-dada…Famous spies started somewhere–and this is where! We’ll use our sleuthing (and acting!) talents to go undercover to follow clues and explore mysterious and challenging circumstances in this week-long process drama. We’ll encounter questionable characters in dynamic settings as we work to save humankind! We’ll unlock the state secrets and share our discoveries with the world (and friends and families) on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm.

August 3 – 7 | Mini-Musical: Free to Be You and Me / $475
Using Marlo Thomas’ wonderful book of stories and poems as inspiration, we’ll explore what being free means to each of us. We’ll sing, dance and create characters and stories throughout the week. We’ll share our explorations and discoveries with families and friends on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm.

August 10 – 14 | Wizard Week / $475
Wands up! Dust off your spellbooks! You’re going to need them for this week of wizarding adventures. We’ll encounter mystical (and only slightly dangerous) creatures and characters as we explore a magical world and create our own adventure! We’ll share glimpses into this enchanted world on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm with our friends and families.

August 17 – 21 | Ever After / $475
Step back in time to 1502 France, and join us in this process drama based on a retelling of the Cinderella story, featuring the Brothers Grimm, a horse thief Prince working to recapture the Mona Lisa from gypsies and return it to Leonardo di Vinci! We’ll use our voices, bodies and imaginations to recreate this world, discover our own outcomes and share what we find with families and friends on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm.

August 24 – 28 | The Pirates of the Caribbean / $475
Argh matey!! If ye dare, come on aboard! We’re off in search of the rarest of treasures! The voyage is sure to take us to exotic locales where we’ll encounter some pretty strange creatures and suspicious characters. We’ll be using our noggins to puzzle our way through dangerous passages as we follow the clues. We’ll share our amazing discoveries with them that deserves it on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm.

August 31 – September 4 | Carnival / $475
Summer is almost over and it’s time to celebrate! We’ll use the theme of Carnival! to create a music and dance-filled extravaganza and send the season off in high style! We’ll consider all the places in the world that celebrate Carnival! and use those influences to create our own! Families and friends are invited to celebrate with us on Friday afternoon at 2:30pm.
