Brooklyn Acting Lab’s mission is to create innovative theatrical works that reflect our diverse global community and to nurture talent by providing comprehensive arts training for children and adults. BAL partners with schools and community-based organizations to provide arts-in-education programming, performances, and events, collaborating across the performing arts in order to exchange work and ideas with artists nationally and internationally.
BAL Productions are community affairs, woven from the rich fabric of social, cultural, and environmental factors that are organic to Brooklyn neighborhoods. Buy tickets and learn more about our past and upcoming productions here.
BAL’s theatre-making is driven by the dreams, ideas, and inquiries of the youth we work with. We support young learners on their journey of discovery, and stimulate their thinking through interdisciplinary arts-practices.
When NYC schools are closed, our doors are open! BAL’s “Play in a Day” program includes daily-changing themes, story-sharing, games, art, and music. Early drop-off and late pick-up are available.
“They really center around the kids' ideas and imagination and let them lead the way. It's very empowering AND fun. I highly recommend it. Our daughter went there for a few weeks last summer and has done several of their "play in a day" mini camps and will be heading back this summer. They are small so the kids get a lot of love and attention.”
"The directors and staff are all warm, smart and engaging, bringing their own professional training and expertise to the kids."
"Right off the bat, we could tell our coach was highly experienced in working with kids, incredibly professional, warm and congenial, helping our kid to hone technique and deliver the best possible performance with focused attention."
"I was so impressed with how they nailed the issues kids face and offered a solution in the most upbeat positive way possible, through song and dance!"
"These are great child-centered, imagination-driven, creative and serious theater classes."
"The teaching staff is truly amazing and they create a safe and encouraging environment to allow children to grow and perform and have fun."
"I am blown away by the increases in my daughter’s confidence and stage presence."
"This was my son's first experience at a theater camp and we couldn't have asked for a better program. The teachers were amazing and both challenged and nurtured my son while teaching him dancing, singing and acting as well running a full scale musical production. The play itself was very impressive and they definitely knew how to maximize the talent and potential of all of the kids. This camp has definitely created a true love of theater in my child and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get more comfortable on stage or enhance their theater skills."
"My daughter has found her voice, a new passion and a community of young artists that she now calls friends."
"Brooklyn Acting Lab helped our daughter become an astronaut, robot, an ancient goddess, a monkey-singer, designer, a comedian, and an all around flexible, collaborative, brave and honest part of a team. All of that is cool, but what I love the most is that it helped her find and love her own voice."
"I just think Brooklyn Acting Lab has been the best acting experience I have ever had in my life. And the people here are really awesome... I have made so many friends here that I will know for life."
"My children have benefitted tremendously from their experiences at BAL. It is a serious learning environment where students have a lot of fun and work together in a collaborative and respectful environment."
"The performance had a charm, an identity, an old-fashioned, hard working approach to theater involving kids that is rare now... The whole thing left the viewer with a reverence for childhood, and all of its potential."
"There’s a diversity of changing themes and activities... With its intimate scale, the kids get a beautiful personal touch you’d never find at a more commercial enterprise."
