Summer Program FAQs

What are the summer program hours?

Drop-off is at 9AM and pick-up is at 3 PM.

If you are running late for drop-off or pick-up, please call the office at 718-238-8383 or email us at admin@brooklynactinglab.org

If a child is picked up later than 3:15, you will be charged an additional $10 per 15minutes.

Is there early drop-off or after-care?

Unfortunately, this summer we are not able to offer early drop-off or after-care.

When will I receive the Zoom link for virtual programs?

Zoom links will be sent out on Friday afternoons for programs that begin on Monday. The same zoom link will be used for the duration of the 2-week program.

If you are having trouble logging onto Zoom, please email us at admin@brooklynactinglab.org.

What happens if it rains?

If there is more than a 40% chance of continuous rain or thunderstorms in the morning, we will move the program online for the day. Refunds/credits/make-ups will not be given for rainy days. If it rains hard or there is thunder/lightning during the day, we will call families. Kids will need to be picked up within the half-hour from the park or at the BAL space.

The program will be held on Zoom from 9AM-3PM. Here is a sample Zoom day:

9-10 AM Introductions, Ice-Breakers, Physical and Vocal Warm-Ups

10 AM Snack

10:15-11:30 Theater and Improv Games

11:30-12:00 Song and Dance

12-1:00 Screen-free Lunch

1:00-2:00 Theme-related PLAY-making

2:00-3:00 Rehearsal

What is your Summer Program refund policy?

No refunds or credits will be issued this summer.

  • If in-person programming is suspended due to Covid-19 or other reasons out of BAL’s control, we will move all programming online for the remainder of the session. No refunds or credits will be issued in the event that programs must be moved online due to a shutdown.
  • If a program is cancelled due to low-enrollment, you will be given the option of receiving a refund or applying the payment as a credit towards another program (either outdoors or online). This credit is valid through 2022.

Can I switch the weeks I’ve registered my child?

Weeks can be switched based on availability. Requests must be made by e-mail and must be received 2 weeks prior to the start of the program.

What should my child bring each day of the Summer Program?

Please send your child with a healthy lunch, two or more snacks, and a bottle of water or thermos. We eat the first snack between 10AM and 10:30AM, lunch at 12PM, and the second snack at 2PM. We do not have a refrigerator to keep lunches cold and we are unable to heat up food.

Please send your child with a clean extra mask,  a small container of hand sanitizer, and sunscreen.

What should my child wear to BAL?

Please send your child in comfortable clothes and shoes, as they will be dancing and moving around a lot! Sneakers and supportive sandals are best. No flip-flops, please. Sunscreen should be applied in the morning at home. You should send a bottle of sunscreen to re-apply during the day. Please send your child with a hat.

What if I need to pick up my child early from the Summer Program?

No problem! If you plan on picking up your child earlier than 3PM, please let us know (send an email to admin@brooklynactinglab.org, or call 718-238-8383) and we will bring your child to the park entrance.

What if my child is having a playdate or another adult is picking up my child at 3PM?

If your child is being picked up by an adult who has not been noted as an authorized pick-up on on the registration form, we must be notified in writing. You can send an email to admin@brooklynactinglab.org. Your child will not be released to an adult without this written notification from the parents/guardians.

How can I reach Brooklyn Acting Lab during Summer Program hours?

Please email us at admin@brooklynactinglab.org or call us at 718-238-8383.  If you don’t reach us immediately, please leave a detailed message and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Do you offer financial assistance and scholarships?

The arts are essential. Art will play an integral role in our healing. Art will help restore joy in our hearts, homes, and communities. The arts will be a vital tool in re-imagining and re-creating a better and brighter future.

Arts education is a right, not a privilege. At BAL we are committed to providing access to all children and families who wish to partake in our programs.
