Summer 2020 Guidelines

Policies and Guidelines for Outdoor 2020 Summer Programs

In addition to virtual programming, BAL is offering limited Outdoor Programming at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Weekly themes are available to students entering 1st thru 8th grades. Classes run Monday thru Thursday from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. These programs are immersive theatrical adventures and will give the children an opportunity to play outdoors, dance and move, and engage in guided dramatic play and improvisation.

COVID-19 Guidelines

Brooklyn Acting Lab has been closely monitoring Covid-19 in New York State. The health and safety of children and their families, teaching artists, and BAL employees is our number one concern and priority.  As such, BAL’s Outdoor Programming for Summer 2020 will be following NYS Guidelines for Childcare and Day Camp Programs.

Daily Procedures

A. Drop-Off and Pick-Up

Each morning kids will be dropped off at the 11th Street entrance of Prospect Park. (11th St. and PPW). Pick-up will be at the same location. We will only dismiss your child to an authorized pick-up that has been noted on your registration form.

During pick-up and drop-off we ask that you:

  • Remain physically distant all times. (6 ft apart)
  • Wear a face covering at all times.

B. Check-in Procedures

At drop-off, BAL will be taking the temp of each child with a contactless thermometer. Temperatures of all teaching artists and kids will be checked. Anyone with a fever of 100.4 degrees or above will not be able to join the daily activities.

Screening questions will be asked each day and answers will be recorded daily. To speed up check-in we request that you respond electronically before drop-off each morning, if possible. We ask all parents to immediately notify us if your child has any Covid symptoms.

C. Rainy Days

On rainy days, we will move to virtual programming. If there is a 40% or more forecast of rain  for the day we will provide families with a Zoom link the evening prior. In the event of unexpected rain during the day, kids will need to be picked up at the 11th Street park entrance or at BAL (1012 8th Avenue). Parents will be notified which location we are at.

Physical Distancing

To comply with physical distancing requirements we agree to do the following:

  • The maximum number of children in the group will be 8. There will be one teaching artist and one assistant.
  • Teaching artists will maintain a distance of 6 ft from each other, unless safety or core function of the work activity requires a shorter distance.
  • When kids cannot socially distance adequately we will ask them to wear their face coverings. When they are running and actively moving they will not wear a face covering. When they are not wearing face coverings they will be socially distanced (6 ft apart).
  • For warm-ups and group activities we will set out hula hoops as markers that denote 6 ft. of spacing.
  • We will limit all in-person gatherings as much as possible and use tele- or video-conferencing whenever possible. Essential in-person gatherings will be held in open, well-ventilated spaces with appropriate social distancing among participants.
