SUMMER THEATER PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH AND TEENS

(JUNE 17–AUGUST 30)

Spend your summer performing, creating, imagining and having fun at Brooklyn Acting Lab! BAL offers immersive summer theater programs and camps for Early Childhood, Elementary School, Middle School and High School students. Highly creative weekly themes shape the stories we share, the games we play and the art and music that are woven into the flow of the each day. Join us for as many weeks as you choose – themes change every week!

Young PLAYers Series

Summer Theater Program

WHAT: Young Players Series

COST: $285–$475 per week

Program Description

Join us for Summer Stock BK with Brooklyn Acting Lab: June 17–August 30, 2019!

Open to rising 1st–4th graders, the BAL Young PLAYers Studio Summer Theater Programs are a process-based and immersive theatrical experience for young participants. Each week is a different theme and its own unique theater adventure. Sign up for one week or the entire summer!

BAL is an ensemble-based program. We believe that one of the most exciting aspects of theater-making is working together to create a performance piece which is inclusive and celebrates each and every ensemble-member.

At our summer theater programs and camps, everyone has a part to PLAY whether you are a veteran to the stage or new to the scene. Each young artist will be met where they are and guided forward in a nurturing and supportive environment. We will sing, dance, imagine, share stories, create characters, and DREAM!

Our teaching artists are experienced educators AND  professional Theater artists working in NYC, regionally, and internationally. They love what they do and are passionate about co-creating theater WITH young people.

Theater is magic and there is magic in theater!

Ages: Rising 1st–4th grades
Hours: 9 AM–3 PM
Location: Brooklyn Acting Lab (1012 8th Avenue)

Early Drop-off is available at 8:30 am on Monday, 8 am Tuesday thru Friday ($50/per week). Aftercare is available from 3–6 pm Monday thru Thursday, but NOT on Friday ($120/per week).

Summer Musical Program

Program Description

Summer 2019 Musical: You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown!

In just four weeks, we will create, rehearse, tech, and perform a full-length musical, with plenty of time for vocal coaching, dance technique, and tons of other performance-based workshops. For our actors who want to perform in a musical show this summer, and are ready to take on an entire production, this experience is for you!

During this summer theater program (4 week camp) you will:

  • Work intensively on your singing, dancing, and acting skills in a fun and positive environment.
  • Make new friends and have an unforgettable summer experience!
  • Do the Snoopy Peanuts Dance every day!

Dates: July 8–August 2
Ages: Open to rising 3rd-8th graders
Hours: 9 AM–3 PM

Performance: Our performance will take place at the Mark O’Donnell Theater (an 80-seat blackbox in downtown Brooklyn) at Actors Fund Arts Center on August 1 at 6:30 PM.

Program Description

Join us for Summer Intensives with Brooklyn Acting Lab: at The K-293 Campus in Cobble Hill!

For our rising 4th–7th graders we offer Summer Intensives ranging from musical theatre bootcamp to acting on-camera! These workshops are pre-professional sessions open to every level. Get ready to learn how to slate for the camera, use cue-cards, manage a conservatory-style training program, perform a monologue, sing an audition cut, wow the creative team at a dance call and more! Sing, dance and act all summer long with our staff of professional actors, directors and choreographers!

Please send your child with a healthy lunch, two snacks, and a bottle of water. We are a nut-free zone so please pack snacks and food accordingly! If your child is participating in our aftercare program, please kindly send your child with one or two extra healthy snacks for the end of their day!

Our “sharing” is scheduled on Fridays at 2:30PM at Albee Dance. We encourage parents and/or caregivers to join, however we do understand that scheduling is sometimes difficult. As long as your child knows in advance, our staff will always be present for your children as their “audience,” and will provide a lot of support!

Can’t wait to see your name up in lights? Immerse yourself in a week-long exploration of Broadway musicals from different eras. This ensemble-driven musical theatre intensive will give you the opportunity to develop and hone your vocal, dance, and acting skills in a supportive and nurturing environment. Each day is broken into sessions to focus on specific performance skills, culminating in a cabaret-style musical revue on Friday afternoon for family and friends.

Improv = fun + infinite possibilities! This ensemble-based workshop is a safe space to imagine possibilities, explore how to perform and create a variety of characters that crack you up. Spend a week with an ensemble of young improvisers, learning techniques and practices to help you stay present, truthful and connected, culminating in a Friday afternoon improv showcase for family and friends.

July 22 – 26 | Acting on Camera  / $475

Ready for your big break? Learn how to get comfortable in front of the camera and emote for the big screen!  We’ll demystify the studio experience while giving you all of the skills necessary to rock a commercial audition. Learn to analyze commercial copy, approach cold reads, work with an off-camera reader, master the use of cue cards and perfect the all-important slate. And on Friday, your family and friends can take in a special screening of your work.

August 5 – 9 | Scenes and Monologues  / $475

Dig deep into a scene selected specifically for you! Using script analyzation techniques and games, you’ll learn how to get into your character’s skin and walk in their shoes. Working closely with a scene partner, you’ll learn how to listen and respond truthfully when sharing a scene. End of week, you’ll share what you’ve learned in an intimate share for family and friends.

Can’t get enough of Wicked? Know every Hamilton rap by heart? Hone your vocal, dance, and acting skills in a supportive, week-long immersion into Broadway musicals, from yesterday and today. Each day is broken into sessions to develop specific performance skills, culminating in a cabaret-style musical revue on Friday afternoon for family and friends.
