Through the exploration of empathy, thoughtfully guided dramas and imaginative improvisation, we’ll experience the process of creating characters through storytelling and performance. Exploring various fictional and real-life characters with wonder and curiosity, we’ll begin to understand what motivates characters — and put on some convincing performances! Learn what it feels like to walk in someone else’s shoes.
Spend your summer performing, creating, imagining, and having fun! Brooklyn Acting Lab offers weekly immersive theatre programs for elementary and middle school actors from June 18th thru August 31st. Our themes shape the stories we share, the games we play, and the art and music that are woven into the flow of each day. Join us for as many weeks as you choose – themes change every week!
“If you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”

Full-length SUMMER MUSICAL!
In just four weeks, we will create, rehearse, tech, and perform Shrek the Musical Jr., with plenty of time for vocal coaching, dance technique, and tons of other performance-based workshops. For our actors who want to perform in a full-length show this summer and are ready to take on an entire production, this show is for you!
Youth Centered Drama:
BAL’s summer programs are offered to elementary students (entering Kindergarten-3rd grades in Fall ’18) and upper elementary/middle school students (entering 4th-8th grades in Fall ’18).
Dates / Times:
Programs run all summer long from June 18th-August 31st, Monday through Friday, in weeklong sessions. Each day begins at 9am and dismisses at 3pm.
Early and Aftercare:
Early drop-off (8:30am on Mondays and 8am Tuesday thru Friday) and aftercare (3-6pm) is offered to all actors Monday through Thursday. We do not offer after-care on Fridays.
In addition to theatre workshops, students also have time built into their day for outdoor play, lunch, two snacks, music, and visual art. At the end of each day, actors get additional time for theatre games and reflection.
Each Friday at 2:00pm (BAL Studio @ 1012 8th Avenue) and 2:30pm (all other locations), Brooklyn Acting Lab hosts a “share” for all actors. The “share” gives the kids a chance to perform together as an ensemble and to share with an audience the theatre piece they have been creating over the course of the week. Families and friends are welcome to attend these performances.
