Summer Program FAQs

What are the summer program hours?

Drop-off is at 9AM and pick-up is at 3 PM. 

If you are running late for drop-off or pick-up, please call the office at 718-238-8383 or email us at admin@brooklynactinglab.org 

If a child is picked up later than 3:15, you will be charged an additional $15 per 15 minutes.

Is there early drop-off or after-care?

This summer we are offering early drop-off from 8:30 AM (M-F) at all of our locations. The weekly cost is $75 for early drop-off.

We are offering late pick-up for both South Slope locations: 1012 8th Avenue and 56 Windsor Place from 3:00-5:00 PM (M-Th). The weekly cost for late pick-up is $150. Late pick-up will be held at the 56 Windsor Place studio. Children in the Intensives (grades 4-8) will be walked over to the 56 Windsor Place location by a BAL staff member at 3 PM and will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian/caregiver by 5 PM. Please note, we do not have late pick-up on Fridays.

We are not able to offer late pick-up at Old First Church (K-3rd) .

9:15-10:15: Introductions, Ice-Breakers, and Theater Games

10:15-10:30: Morning Snack

10:30-11:15: Moving Big: Physical Warm-Ups/Movement and Physical Theater Improv

11:15-12:00: Exploration of the Weekly Theme through Guided Improv/Story Drama

12:00: Lunch and Outdoor Free Play

1:00: PLAY-making: building and rehearsing the Friday share

2:00: Snack

2:15: Stage Craft: making of simple props,costume pieces, puppets, masks etc.

3:00: Dismissal

Summer Intensives Sample Flow of the Day

9:15-10:15: Introductions/Ice-Breakers and Ensemble-Building Theater Games

10:15-10:30: Snack

10:30-12:00: The Lab (depending on focus of the week, students will delve into dance/choreo,
vocal/music, improv/sketch, or devising workshop)

12:00-1:00: Lunch and Free Time (screen free)

1:00-2:30: Performance Lab/Rehearsal – This time is focused on building/rehearsing the share. Depending on the week Students will work on choreography, vocal performance, improv and sketch-writing, scene-building etc.)

2:30: Snack and Reflection – What/how do we want to explore tomorrow?

3:00: Dismissal

What is your Summer Program refund policy?

  • No refunds or credits will be given after April 29th, 2024.  
  • If in-person programming is suspended due to Covid-19 or other reasons out of BAL’s control, we will move all programming online for the remainder of the session. No refunds or credits will be issued in the event that programs must be moved online due to a shutdown.
  • If a program is cancelled due to low-enrollment, you will be given the option of receiving a refund or applying the payment as a credit towards another program.

This credit is valid through June 2025.

Can I switch the weeks I’ve registered my child?

You can request a switch by emailing admin@brooklynactinglab.org. If there is space in the week you are requesting, we will accommodate the switch. You must request the switch at least two weeks prior to the week you are registered for. 

There is a $40 switching fee.

What should my child bring each day of the Summer Program?

Please send your child with a healthy lunch, two or more snacks, and a bottle of water or thermos. We eat the first snack between 10AM and 10:30AM, lunch at 12PM, and the second snack at 2PM. We do not have a refrigerator to keep lunches cold and we are unable to heat up food. 

Please send your child with a small tube of sunscreen so they can reapply as needed.

What should my child wear to BAL?

Please send your child in comfortable clothes and shoes, as they will be dancing and moving around a lot! Sneakers and supportive sandals are best. No flip-flops, please. Sunscreen should be applied in the morning at home. You should send a bottle of sunscreen to re-apply during the day. Please send your child with a hat.

What if I need to pick up my child early from the Summer Program?

No problem! If you plan on picking up your child earlier than 3PM, please let us know (send an email to admin@brooklynactinglab.org, or call 718-238-8383).

What if my child is having a playdate or another adult is picking up my child at 3PM?

If your child is being picked up by an adult who has not been noted as an authorized pick-up on on the registration form, we must be notified in writing. You can send an email to admin@brooklynactinglab.org. Your child will not be released to an adult without this written notification from the parents/guardians.

When are the shares/performances?

The shares will be held on Fridays at 2:00 PM for the Intensives (4th-8th) and 2:45 PM for the Young Players (K-3). 

Do you offer financial assistance and scholarships?

The arts are essential. Art will play an integral role in our healing. Art will help restore joy in our hearts, homes, and communities. The arts will be a vital tool in re-imagining and re-creating a better and brighter future. 

Arts education is a right, not a privilege. At BAL we are committed to providing access to all children and families who wish to partake in our programs.

When is summer tuition due?

To reserve your child’s space, summer tuition is due in full by Friday, April 26th, 2024.
